Installation and configuration
- Add
cxo_abr_abn_lookupto the Odoo 19 custom addons path. - Update the Apps list and install Australian Business Lookup.
- Register for an Australian Business Register Web Services GUID for your organisation.
- Open General Settings, enable Australian Business Lookup, enter the customer-owned GUID, and select Validate ABR Settings.
- Assign Australian Business Lookup User or Manager access to authorised staff.
- Test a known company in a non-production environment before enabling batch work.
Look up one company
- Open an Australian company in Contacts.
- Add the ABN, ACN, or available company and location information that should guide the search.
- Select Lookup in ABR.
- Review the returned candidate or candidates. Use the state and postcode filters when they are available and useful.
- Select the intended candidate and review its name, ABN, ACN, status, state, postcode, and match evidence.
- Choose whether to update the Odoo company name when that option is offered.
- Select Apply Selected Candidate only after confirming the intended Australian entity.
What applying a candidate can change
The lookup stores supported ABR evidence. It can fill a blank Tax ID, or replace an ACN-only Tax ID with the matched ABN. It can fill blank country, state, and postcode values from ABR main business location evidence. Existing non-ABN Tax IDs and existing native location values are not overwritten.
The company name changes only when the reviewer deliberately selects that option. Street and suburb are not filled from ABR main business location evidence.
Review or clear stored evidence
Open the ABR tab on the company contact to review the latest stored evidence and ABR names. Use Open ABR to view the public ABR profile for a stored ABN.
Use Clear ABR Evidence and confirm the action to remove stored ABR evidence and ABR name rows. This does not clear the native contact name, Tax ID, country, state, postcode, street, or suburb.
Process companies in a batch
- Open Australian Business Lookup and select Australian Companies Missing ABN.
- Select the company contacts to check.
- Run ABR: Lookup Selected Companies.
- Select Process Now or allow the scheduled worker to process the queue.
- Review matched, ambiguous, no-match, skipped, and failed outcomes on the batch lines.
- Open ambiguous outcomes and apply a candidate only after reviewing the evidence.
Troubleshooting
- If lookup is blocked, open General Settings and use Validate ABR Settings to check that the feature is enabled and a valid customer-owned GUID is configured.
- If Lookup in ABR is not visible, confirm the record is a company and the user has Australian Business Lookup User or Manager access.
- If a name search returns several candidates, use the available filters and review the evidence rather than applying an uncertain match.
- If a batch does not complete immediately, open the batch to review its queue state or use Process Now if the user has access.
Privacy and limitations
- Each customer supplies and maintains its own ABR Web Services GUID.
- Lookup requests travel directly from the customer's Odoo server to ABR Web Services. CXO Advisory does not receive the lookup data.
- The app assists with verification but does not certify legal identity, tax status, registry accuracy, or the suitability of a candidate.
- Ambiguous matches require human review.
- Later Odoo major versions require a separately supported release.
