Odoo Follower Guard
Documentation
Installation
- Add cxo_mail_follower_controls to the Odoo 19 custom addons path.
- Update the Apps list and install Odoo Follower Guard.
- Refresh the Odoo backend so the current assets and views load.
- Open a record with chatter and check that Add Followers starts with active internal users.
Configuration
No administrator configuration is required.
Using Odoo Follower Guard
Add an internal colleague
- Open a customer, quotation, invoice, task, or another record that has chatter.
- Open Add Followers.
- Leave Include External Contacts unticked.
- Search for and select the active internal user, then complete the normal Odoo add-follower action.
Include an external contact deliberately
- Open Add Followers on the relevant record.
- Tick Include External Contacts.
- Search for and select the customer, supplier, portal user, or other external contact that should follow the record.
- Complete the normal Odoo add-follower action.
Remove an existing follower
Use Odoo's normal follower-management action. Removal remains unrestricted, including for external followers that were added before the module was installed.
Troubleshooting
- If the new option does not appear after installation or upgrade, refresh the browser so the current backend assets load.
- If an internal colleague is missing from the default picker, confirm that the related Odoo user is active and is not a portal or shared user.
- If a customer or supplier is missing, confirm Include External Contacts is ticked before searching again.
Limitations
- The module reduces selection risk; it does not guarantee confidentiality.
- It does not rewrite followers already stored on a record.
- It does not replace or change standard Odoo notification behaviour after a follower is added.
- Later Odoo major versions require a separately supported release.
